- When injected, the gel base in Sculptra provides immediate, albeit subtle, volume and hydration to the treated area, offering an initial improvement.
- More importantly, the poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) microspheres within the gel create a temporary scaffold beneath the skin.
- These PLLA microspheres gently stimulate your fibroblasts, the cells responsible for collagen production.
- As the microspheres gradually dissolve over time, they continue to activate the collagen-building process.
- Stimulated fibroblasts produce new collagen fibres, which gradually fill in the temporary scaffold created by the PLLA microspheres.
- This new collagen provides natural, long-lasting volume and structure to the skin, smoothing out wrinkles and lines.
- Unlike fillers that simply add volume, Sculptra works slowly and progressively, mimicking the natural collagen production process.
