Benefits of Lip Fillers at Yorkshire Skin Centre

How do we approach lip filler treatment procedure?

  • Your injector will start by cleaning and numbing your lips.
  • They will then use a microcannula, a blunt-tipped needle, to inject the filler into your lips.
  • The procedure typically takes about 30 minutes to complete.
  • You may experience some mild swelling and bruising after your procedure. This is normal and should subside within a few days.
  • You will be able to see your results immediately, but they will continue to develop over the next few weeks.
  • Lip fillers typically last for 6-12 months, depending on the type of filler used and your individual metabolism. Once the filler starts to break down, you can return for a touch-up treatment to maintain your desired results.

Lip fillers can result in swelling and bruising, but using a blunt micro cannula can significantly reduce these side effects. Lip fillers are injected into the lips, which is a delicate area with a lot of blood vessels. When the filler is injected, it can cause some of these blood vessels to break, leading to swelling and bruising.
A blunt micro cannula is a thin, flexible tube with a blunt tip. It is inserted into the lips through a single puncture point. The blunt tip helps to push blood vessels aside rather than piercing them, which reduces the risk of bruising. The thin and flexible nature of the cannula also helps to minimise trauma to the tissues, which can further reduce swelling and bruising.
  • More precise placement of the filler
  • Reduced pain and discomfort
  • Faster healing time
  • More uniform and homogenous results

An example of how a blunt micro cannula can be used to reduce swelling and bruising during a lip filler procedure:
  • The injector will start by cleaning and numbing the lips.
  • They will then insert a blunt micro cannula into the lips through a single puncture point.
  • The filler will be injected through the cannula into the desired areas.
  • The cannula will then be removed.
This process is much less traumatic to the tissues than using a traditional needle, which can cause multiple puncture points and bleeding. As a result, there is a significant reduction in the risk of swelling and bruising.

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions about Lip Fillers

We use premium quality, FDA approved Hyaluronic Acid from Teoxane. This means the dermal filler used normally lasts 9-12 months, but in reality fillers can last for many years in patients and we can always build on results over time if required.

A typical younger patient will need approximately 1ml of filler, and we normally don’t advocate less than that as we want to see results. After that it is on a case by case basis but when we are trying to solve other problems such as marionette lines, or upper lip lines sometimes we may require 3-4mls of hyaluronic acid to get the job done. This can of course be done over multiple sittings.

The risk of allergy is incredibly rare but we would take previous medical problems or allergies into account. This is part of our medical consultation so we can discuss it further if you are concerned.

We take pride in being one of only a handful of clinics who use a crafted local anaesthetic block, designed for this procedure. Once that’s in, you shouldn’t feel anything at all. If you did, we can always increase the dose of local anaesthetic.

Bruising is firstly rare with our technique as we use a blunt tip cannula to address the lip body. As the instrument is blunt, it means we significantly reduce the risk of cannula being able to puncture a blood vessel. Hence we would advise that probably 1 in 200 to 1 in 500 patients get a significant bruise with our technique compared to 1 in 5 patients if we use the traditional needle based approach which 98% of practitioners use. If you manage to get a bruise it could be anything from a few days to a few weeks for it to completely go, depending on how big the bruise is and how fast your body can process it. Remember you can cover with makeup from the next day so this isn’t normally something our patients worry about.

However, if you are having fillers to help with other issues such as upper lip lines or downturned mouth corners, there is always a higher risk of bruising to occur. Things we can do to help will be discussed during your consultation. There is always going to be a risk of bruising but the bruises are usually minor and small due to use of a microcannula rather than needles.

24-72 hours – it is rare that it lasts longer than this in most people. Swelling is due to using an instrument inside the lip tissue. We can offer advice about reducing swelling if needed.

This is a common issue, and we can talk about correcting it as everyone gets a bespoke consultation and treatment plan based on their current anatomy and what they want to achieve. We will take asymmetry into account and treat accordingly where possible.

Yes, we have treated many patients who have had cancers around the mouth area as well as those who have had surgical scars with contraction and tightness around the scar. We’ve had so many happy patients and this work can be life changing for some. . Please book a consultation to discuss this.

We will have a full consultation so we can decide if the treatment is appropriate for you and will only proceed if the answer is yes. Sometimes people want their lips done but there may be another facial feature taking precedence, and we are happy to provide expert advice on this. We always take medical ethics into account – the first rule is do no harm, so we will tell you if something is not needed or appropriate. We’re happy to say no which is a sign of a good practitioner.

This is a complicated topic, but it is an incredibly rare complication from any dermal procedure on the face. Out of 18 million people around the world who have undergone procedures, we know of approx. 200 cases of blindness. We will ensure patients are safe and we have protocols in place if we see a vascular risk. We reduce risks as much as possible by using low injection pressures, blunt cannulas, and our knowledge of the anatomy allows us to avoid certain areas. Our specialist is in the 0.01% of practitioners in the UK that has an ultrasound scanner in the clinic so we can check anatomy beforehand. If this is different from normal, we can adjust treatment where needed.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, also known as an eye lift, is a surgical procedure performed on the eyelids to improve their appearance. It can address concerns like:

  • Excess skin on the upper eyelids: This can obstruct vision and create a hooded appearance.

  • Bags under the lower eyelids: These can make you look tired or aged.

  • Drooping lower eyelids: This can also obstruct vision and contribute to a tired appearance.

Types of Blepharoplasty:

  • Upper blepharoplasty: This addresses concerns with the upper eyelids, removing excess skin and sometimes fat or muscle tissue.

  • Lower blepharoplasty: This addresses concerns with the lower eyelids, removing excess fat or skin and sometimes repositioning tissues.

  • Asian blepharoplasty: This addresses specific concerns related to the anatomy of Asian eyelids, creating a more defined crease.
