Education as a Pillar of Empowerment
We believe in empowering patients through knowledge. Equipping you with insights into cysts and lipomas, we’ve compiled essential information covering their traits, potential risks, and the discomforts they might cause.

Cysts, which are common skin formations, often appear as rounded lumps that feel firm to the touch. Recognising the subtleties and understanding the unique traits of cysts is vital for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. They can be fluid filled but not always, and sometimes present with a history of becoming inflamed and angry and equally sometimes they can be there for years without ever changing.
Lipomas, characterised by fatty tissue growth beneath the skin, are normally harmless growths with distinct characteristics. They normally sit quite superficially in the outer fatty layer just under the skin. They can sometimes be visible or only obvious when pressed and felt. Some can occasionally cause pain, but also irritation, itchiness and can be unsightly to many patients.
Sebaceous cysts: They can be found all over the body but commonly on the face, neck, torso or limbs. Sebaceous cysts are benign lumps on the skin that can be filled with fluid sometimes. They are usually caused by trauma or damage to the sebaceous glands, such as from cuts or surgical wounds but you may even have known there was an original issue where the lump now is. A sebaceous cyst is noncancerous and very slow growing but a large cyst may be painful depending on the location of the growth. They can also occasionally become infected so we need to assess you first to make sure it's safe to treat.
Epidermoid cysts are similar to sebaceous cysts and are often mistaken for each other. Epidermoid cysts are commonly found on the face, neck, chest, shoulders or skin around the genitals. They affect young and middle-aged adults and are particularly common in people with acne. They do not usually run in families.
Trichilemmal cysts are more commonly found on the scalp. A trichilemmal cyst, also known as a pilar cyst, is a keratin-filled cyst that originates from the outer hair root sheath. Trichilemmal cysts are usually diagnosed in middle-aged females and often run in the family. Trichilemmal cysts look similar to epidermoid cysts and are often incorrectly termed sebaceous. A trichilemmal cyst can be painful if inflamed, and is firm to touch.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, also known as an eye lift, is a surgical procedure performed on the eyelids to improve their appearance. It can address concerns like:

  • Excess skin on the upper eyelids: This can obstruct vision and create a hooded appearance.

  • Bags under the lower eyelids: These can make you look tired or aged.

  • Drooping lower eyelids: This can also obstruct vision and contribute to a tired appearance.

Types of Blepharoplasty:

  • Upper blepharoplasty: This addresses concerns with the upper eyelids, removing excess skin and sometimes fat or muscle tissue.

  • Lower blepharoplasty: This addresses concerns with the lower eyelids, removing excess fat or skin and sometimes repositioning tissues.

  • Asian blepharoplasty: This addresses specific concerns related to the anatomy of Asian eyelids, creating a more defined crease.
